“Good People Deserve Good Things”
Former Senator Miriam Santiago’s husband, Atty. Jun Santiago confirmed that the former senator and lawmaker died peacefully in her sleep at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City.
In 2014, she had announced to the public that she had been battling stage 4 lung cancer. And early this morning, the battle is over. Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago has faced her final curtain call.
Miriam was considered as the Iron Lady Of Asia — she is a fierce and feisty public servant. Aside from her scholastic and political achievements in Judicial, Executive and Legislative in local, national and international governance, Santiago has captured the hearts of the youth because of her unquestionable honesty and her notable witticisms.
She has written countless books in governance and law and she became more popular in her phenomenal best-selling hits, “Stupid is Forever” and the sequel, “Stupid is Forevermore.”
The lady senator fears no one, not even her fellow legislators. Although she has been battling with cancer during her term as a senator, this did not slow her down. She continuously fought corruption and she did this with outstanding diplomacy.
Santiago sought for presidency three times (1992, 1998, 2016) and though it may seem that presidency was not for her, many believed that she is one of the best person to run the country. In fact, many believed that “she is the best president the Philippines never had.”
Miriam Defensor Santiago may have succumbed to cancer but her legacy will remain in the mind and hearts not only of her fellow legislators but also in the mind and hearts of the younger generation whom she left with big intellectual influence.
She may have bid goodbye but her legacy will live forever.
