Coach Emelio “Chieffy” Caligdong of Philippine football team Azkals and Coach Hans Peter Smit administered the selection of 12 players to attend the Astro Kem Bola Advanced Training Program in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on September together with counterparts from Singapore and Malaysia.

Selected players from the advanced training camp will be sent to Europe on December 2016 for two-week professional football training.

TM Football Para sa Bayan kicked off at the PFF National Training Center in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo as part of the partnership between Astro Malaysia and Globe Telecom.

The undertaking was being handled by Green Archers United, a professional football league and a partner of Globe Telecom in developing the football grassroots program in the last three years.

The football clinic is open to kids aged 10-12 years old including underprivileged kids, varsity players from public and private schools, and private football clubs.

“The grassroot training clinics is a venue to discover talented kids who would be given an opportunity to further harness their craft and bring them closer to their dreams,” Bong Esguerra of Globe Telecom said.

After Iloilo, the football training will proceed at the Sta. Maria Football field in Talisay, Negros Occidental on July 24, Tionko Football Field, Bolton Riverside at Quimpo Blved “Agro” Davao City on August 13 and at the De la Salle Santiago Zobel Football Field, University Ave, Ayala Alabang in Metro Manila on August 20.

Barotac Nuevo is considered as the football capital of the Visayas by producing several football players.
Aside from Caligdong, though he already retired from the Philippine team Azkals, the other hometown football stars were the Araneta brothers namely Pablito, Antonio and Mariano Jr.
